Sun Dried Apricots
Did you know?
Sun dried fruits have higher amounts of fiber and nutrients compared to their fresh fruit versions?
Our California Sun Dried are excellent sources of several important nutrients, including fiber, potassium and antioxidant carotenoids. During the sun drying process fresh fruit loses some its water-soluble and heat-sensitive vitamins such as vitamin C, while other nutrients become more concentrated. Consequently, sun dried fruits, such as our sun dried apricots provide higher levels of nutrients, ounce for ounce, than their fresh counterparts.
Why is fiber important in a diet?
According to researchers at UCSF Medical Center, a high-fiber diet appears to reduce the risk of developing various conditions such as:
Heart disease
Diabetes
Diverticular disease
Constipation
Colon cancer
Fiber is also important for the health of the digestive system and for lowering cholesterol.
How much fiber do we need each day? The American Heart Association recommends 25 grams of fiber daily. Six to eight servings of grains and 8 servings of fruits and 8 vegetables can provide the recommended amount.
